Throws
Invite a splash of colour into your home, with our vibrant Kantha throws. Created in the Indian textile heritage technique of kantha, reclaimed saris made from 100% cotton are stitched together to create a unique piece every time. If you see a throw you love, don’t expect to find another like it!
Kantha is a traditional form of embroidery used to layer fabric to create a sturdier, textured piece, making it ideal for bed cover, sofa throw or picnic blanket. Each kantha throw is made up of six layers of fabric - approximately half the length of a sari, which is around 2m x 1m.
There are variances in each throw in size, and because the fabric has already been used and loved as a sari, you can expect a few imperfections here and there. This only adds to each throw’s character, so you can bring home a piece that’s not only sustainable, but which has a story.
Each kantha throw is hand stitched by women in Bangladesh who were previously sex-trafficked (or at risk of being so), who are now paid a fair wage for an artisanal labour which empowers them.
Our supplier adheres to strict Fair Trade standards around fair wages, community development and environmental sustainability, and works directly with artisans, not a factory of mass production.
In purchasing these throws, you are supporting the creators and their community, and helping them champion sustainable practices of recycling and reusing.
